Summer 2012 Predictions Part 1: The Top Ten

April 28, 2012 in Box Office, Film Previews

The summer movie season is here! I won’t waste any time introducing this summer’s movie slate, because the films alone promise what will be probably the biggest and definitely one of the most interesting summers ever. In this first post, you’ll find my projected top ten of the season, and in my next post later this week you’ll find my thoughts about potential breakouts, flops and everything in between. Let’s get to it.

Christmas 2011 Predictions

December 21, 2011 in Uncategorized

Christmas Eve falling on Saturday throws a wrench into the box office, much like the day did back in 2005, but I’ll try predicting anyway. Because why not? Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Adventures of TintinWe Bought a Zoo and War Horse cannot go ignored. The Darkest Hour, on the other hand, probably can. December 16th-18th Predictions

December 15, 2011 in Box Office

We’re BAACKK.

I know I’ve dropped the ball in terms of keeping up with these, but with some free time and some interesting frames to track (the shit’s REALLY going to hit the fan next weekend), I thought it best to start predicting box office on a weekly basis again. This weekend gives us two high profile sequels in wide release (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Thrones Shadows and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked), another high profile sequel in IMAX (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol), an expanding Jason Reitman movie (Young Adult), and a slew of uninteresting holdovers. Weekend Predictions: Memorial Day 2011

May 25, 2011 in Box Office

This may be the most exciting box office frame in quite some time. It’s not often that we see two sequels battling against each other over one of the biggest weekends of the year, let alone sequels that could conceivably take in over 100 million each over their opening 5-day frames. The Hangover: Part II and Kung Fu Panda 2 come off of extremely well-received predecessors, yet it’s hard to tell how big they will actually be. Combined with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides‘s sophomore frame, The Tree of Life‘s limited start, Midnight in Paris‘s expansion, and other holdovers (see: Bridesmaids), this is shaping up to be a stellar box office week.
